GHOSTS OF MILLARD'S CROSSING HISTORIC VILLAGE

Written By: Meghan Reily | November 2018

On the spookiest night of the year, the ghosts of Millard’s Crossing in Nacogdoches, Texas will make their annual appearance and return to their pioneer homes that they once lived in during the 19th century.

With Halloween a week away, it’s time to hop on your broom sticks and fly to Millard’s Crossing Historic Village on October 31st, where they will host their family-friendly Ghosts of Millard’s Crossing Halloween event.

From hay rides, contests, and the headless horseman, Millard’s Crossing has many things in store for the Nacogdoches community this Halloween.

Millard’s Crossing, established by the late Lera Millard Thomas, is a museum that portrays what life was like during the pioneer days of East Texas.

Thomas’s mission of the museum was to portray pioneer settlement in a way that could educate future generations on the history of the community and its lifestyle. “We have a ton of school field trips that come through here,”Bonnie Joines, volunteer said. “We do very specific activities to teach children how people once lived without the resources we have today."

Joines said that they connect children to the pioneer lifestyle by teaching them how they used their own resources to do things such as butter-making, doing their laundry without having the invention of electricity, as well as cooking meals over a fire-burning stove.

The Millard’s Crossing event is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit with friends and family, it is also a way to educate the youth and draw a connection for future and past generations.

Although this Halloween event occurs once a year, the members and volunteers at Millard’s Crossing host events throughout the year to bring the east Texas community together and to keep Lera Millard Thomas’s mission alive.

“We have four main events for the holidays every year,” Joines said. “There’s a Easter egg hunt, Pioneer day, Halloween, and Christmas."

Friends and family are invited to the Ghosts of Millard’s Crossing event that will be held on October 31, 2018 from 6-9 pm. Tickets are $5/person and children under the age of 3 can attend free of charge.
