GEEKS WHO DRINK

Do you know a lot of random facts? Do you think you know everything about any movie or TV show that crosses your mind?Every Thursday night, at the Fredonia Brewery, you can put your knowledge to the test to see if you are the smartest person in Nacogdoches.
The re-established Fredonia Hotel, reopened June of 2017, and has been an east Texas favorite destination since its original opening in 1955. Since its reopening, the Fredonia has developed many new benefits for locals to enjoy, such as the Fredonia Brewery, which is the first brewery in Nacogdoches since the 1850s. The Fredonia Brewery, established in 2016, has become the go-to destignation for both college students and locals throughout Nacogdoches.

“The brewery has a great vibe,” Marianne Jones, senior at SFA said. “It’s a great place to hang with your friends and unwind.” One of the many ways that the Fredonia Brewery aims to bring the community together is by hosting their weekly trivia night event, Geek Who Drink.

From 6 to 8 pm, the brewery hosts their Geeks Who Drink trivia night, where you can challenge your peers against various trivia knowledge. Geeks Who Drink, a company based in Denver, Colorado, hosts trivia nights to sponsored bars nationwide. Every week, the company will send the sponsored bars the set of trivia questions for that week’s Geeks Who Drink night.
Although the topics of each game consist of various type of questions, such as song lyrics and movie scenes, Jones said that it is fun for all ages.
“The first time I went to Geeks Who Drink, I was clueless on what types of questions they were going to ask,” Jones said. “Even though I don’t know much trivia, I thought that it was entertaining and it seemed that everyone there was getting a kick out of it.”
Each game contains 8 rounds with 8 questions in each, and players have the choice to play individually or with a team of up to 6 players.

According to the Geeks Who Drink company, their overall goal is to provide an entertaining trivia competition that can promote social drinking. So how does Geeks Who Drink differ from other trivia nights? Well, for instance, a typical trivia night consists of a central them or category for that night’s game. However, Geeks Who Drink covers over 70 trivial questions, all within a time frame of 2 hours.
Jones said that she looks forward to Thursday nights at the brewery and that she is excited that the entertainment in Nacogdoches is growing.
“I enjoy going to the brewery on Thursday nights because it’s something that we haven’t seen in Nacogdoches in awhile,” Jones said. “There are so many new places that are opening and there is a lot more variety in the ways we can now socialize.”
The Fredonia Brewery, located on North Mound St, hosts their Geeks Who Drink trivia night weekly on Thursdays from 5 to 8 pm. To participate in the trivia game, simply show up at the brewery, where you can sign up to play individually or with a team.
